In Part 1, The Thoroughbred Report recaps the stallions new to New South Wales, those who are absent, and those who have received significant fee increases.

In Wednesdayโ€™s edition of The Thoroughbred Report, TTR AusNZ recaps the new stallions to the Hunter Valley, those who have moved on, and those with significant fee increases.

Henry Fieldโ€™s Newgate Farm is leading the way, welcoming three new stallions to its star-studded roster. Meanwhile, Vinery, Newhaven, Darley, Coolmore, and Widden Stud are also welcoming new additions to its operation.

Newgate welcomes three

Welcoming a new stallion to a stud is always an exciting time for its team. This season, Newgate Farm is spoiled for choice, adding three new additions to its already substantial roster, bringing the total to 17 stallions.

Leading the trio in terms of service fee is the G1 Coolmore Stud S. winner, Ozzmosis. A son of Zoustar, Ozzmosis is standing for a debut fee of $44,000 (inc GST). He is the fourth generation of his sireline to claim the โ€˜stallion-makingโ€™ sprint down the Flemington straight, following his sire Zoustar, grandsire Northern Meteor, and great grandsire Encosta De Lago, who won the race when it was known as the G2 Ascot Vale S.

Ozzmosis hails from an outstanding family. His dam, No More Tears (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}), was a talented Group 3 winner. His lineage also includes notable names such as Learning To Fly (Justify {USA}), Hips Donโ€™t Lie (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}), and Lake Geneva (Fastnet Rock).

Following Ozzmosis is Militarize (NZ), standing at $38,500 (inc GST) in his debut season. This exceptionally talented colt, a son of Dundeel (NZ), boasts victories in three Group 1 races: the G1 Siresโ€™ Produce S., the G1 Champagne S., and the G1 Golden Rose.

Rounding out Newgate Farmโ€™s trio is the stunning Kingโ€™s Gambit. Bred by Gooree Park Stud, this son of the Champion Sire I Am Invincible was blazingly fast, recording victories in the Listed Debutant S. and the G2 Roman Consul S. He was also placed in the G1 Golden Slipper.

Kingโ€™s Gambit is out of the talented Encosta De Lago mare Sultry Feeling, a dual Group 3 winner and Group 1 and Group 2-placed mare. He is standing his debut season at a fee of $22,000 (inc GST).

The movers

Extreme Choice heads the Newgate Farm roster, with his fee remaining at $275,000 (inc GST). However, one stallion on the roster received a significant fee increase due to his brilliant start: Tassort.

After standing his first four seasons at $11,000 (inc GST), Tassort will now stand for $38,500 (inc GST). His first crop is led by Manaal, who won the G3 Gimcrack S. on debut in the spring, returned in the autumn to win the G2 Sweet Embrace S., and was crowned a Group 1 winner in the Siresโ€™ Produce S.

Manaal is joined by eight other individual winners, including two other stakes performers: Ameena and Ad Astra.

Hawaii to Vinery

Outstanding nursery Vinery has added the exciting Hawaii Five Oh to its roster, bringing its total to seven stallions. Hawaii Five Oh is the first son of I Am Invincible to stand at the property, debuting at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).

Bred by Gerry Harvey and trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Hawaii Five Oh was loaded with talent. He won the G3 Hawkesbury Guineas and the G3 Fred Best Classic and finished third in the G1 Stradbroke H. behind future The Everest winner Think It Over (So You Think {NZ}) and Rothfire (Rothesay). These efforts earned him a spot in The Everest, where he delivered a credible, albeit unlucky, sixth-place finish.

Additionally, Hawaii Five Oh boasts impeccable breeding. He is by a Champion Stallion and out of Aloha, a Group 1-winning daughter of Encosta De Lago. Aloha had already proven her capabilities as a broodmare by producing the late Libertini (I Am Invincible), a multiple Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1 placegetter.

Ole stays on top

There were no significant changes to the Vinery roster overall. Written Tycoonโ€™s dual Group 1-winning son Ole Kirk heads the roster at $55,000 (inc GST), and there is much excitement over his first runners, due to appear next season.

The brilliant All Too Hard remains at $38,500 (inc GST) and recently added a fifth Group 1 winner to his tally, his second Stradbroke H. winner, Stefi Magnetica. Meanwhile, Exceedance continues to kick goals with his first crop and remains at $33,000 (inc GST).

Prolific winner-getter Star Turn remains at a fee of $27,500 (inc GST), while another in that category, Headwater, will stand at a reduced fee of $9900 (inc GST). Rounding out the Vinery squad is Casino Prince. The veteran recently sired his 24th individual stakes winner and is available at a fee of $5500 (inc GST).

Sweet Ride joins Widden

Widden Stud in New South Wales has added a 10th stallion to its impressive roster, welcoming the precocious juvenile Sweet Ride for his debut season at $11,000 (inc GST).

The flashy son of the retired Deep Field was one of his most consistent and talented runners. As a 2-year-old, Sweet Ride won on debut at Rosehill in January, placed fifth in the R. Listed Inglis Millennium and won the Black Opal Preview. He later finished second in the G3 Pago Pago S.

Returning as a 3-year-old, Sweet Ride won the G3 San Domenico S., following in the footsteps of Group 1-producing sires like Testa Rossa, General Nediym, Charge Forward, and Star Turn.

Demonstrating his consistency, he was placed in the G2 Roman Consul S. and the G2 Run to the Rose, where he was beaten by the champion filly In Secret (I Am Invincible). Overall, Sweet Ride retires as a stakes performer at 2, 3, and 4 years old. He is out of the Foxwedge mare How Sweet It Is, from the family of multiple Group 1 winner Metal Bender (Danasinga), G1 New Zealand Oaks victress Amarelinha (NZ) (Savabeel), and Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed North Pacific.

The ascent of Zoustar

A big talking point this season has been the ascent of Zoustar, although he has been a star from day one. He has sired the likes of Sunlight, Lean Mean Machine, Zousain, Zougotcha, Mizzy in earlier crops, and Lezoo (GB) from his Northern Hemisphere crop.

This season, however, the son of Northern Meteor reached new heights, siring three individual Group 1 winners: Ozzmosis (G1 Coolmore Stud S.), Joliestar (G1 Thousand Guineas), and Climbing Star (G1 Robert Sangster S.), alongside a host of stakes winners.

In addition to his sensational results on the track, Zoustar has also achieved remarkable success in the sale ring, with his progeny grossing $41,397,292 across all sales. He fetched a top price of $2.2 million, an average of $470,423, and a median of $390,000.

Understandably, Zoustar received a fee increase from $220,000 (inc GST) last season to $275,000 (inc GST), joining Extreme Choice at that price point.

Golden Slipper hero to Coolmore

Chris Wallerโ€™s G1 Golden Slipper winner, Shinzo, was retired in the autumn and has joined Coolmore at Jerrys Plains.

A son of Snitzel, Shinzo debuted with a third-place finish in the G3 Canonbury S. behind Red Resistance, and was then placed in the G2 Skyline S., beaten by Corniche (Fastnet Rock). Shinzo put it all together to win the G3 Pago Pago S.

Shinzo not only has the looks and race record but also the bloodlines. His sire, Snitzel, is a four-time Champion Sire. Meanwhile, his dam, Samaready, a daughter of More Than Ready (USA), was exceptional herself, winning the G1 Blue Diamond S. and the G1 Moir S. In addition to Shinzo, she is also the dam of the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Exhilarates, a full sister to the Golden Slipper winner.

Shinzo is one of 13 stallions on the Coolmore roster and is standing his debut season at $55,000 (inc GST).

What fee for Wootton?

It is expected that Coolmoreโ€™s international superstar, Wootton Bassett (GB), will be the most expensive stallion on their roster for the 2024 season. However, Coolmore has yet to officially announce a fee for the son of Iffraaj (GB), who will return to Australia this season.

Currently, I Am Invincibleโ€™s dual Group 1-winning son Home Affairs leads the roster at $82,500 (inc GST) and has caused plenty of chatter with his handful of weanlings offered at the sales this season.

The Everest-producing sire, So You Think (NZ), stands at a reduced fee of $77,000 (inc GST), while Pierro will also stand at a reduced fee of $55,000 (inc GST).

Starspangledbanner is one who received a fee increase, now standing at $44,000 (inc GST), up from $33,000 (inc GST). This season, he has sired 13 individual stakes winners of 18 stakes races worldwide, including the Group 1 winners California Spangle and Beauty Eternal.

Newhaven Park welcomes Moโ€™unga

After a glittering race career featuring Group 1 victories in the G1 Rosehill Guineas and the G1 Winx S., alongside placings in the G1 Queen Elizabeth S., the G1 LKS Mackinnon S., the G1 Makybe Diva S., and the G1 Futurity S., as well as a fourth in the G1 Cox Plate, Moโ€™unga (NZ) has retired to Newhaven Park. He will stand his debut season for a fee of $27,500 (inc GST).

The handsome son of Champion Sire Savabeel hails from the Group 3-placed Oโ€™Reilly (NZ) mare Chandelier (NZ), who is also the dam of the exciting 2-year-old, Super Photon (NZ) (Super Seth), unbeaten in two starts, including a Listed victory.

Furthermore, Moโ€™unga comes from a family that includes Group 1 winner Chenille (NZ) (Pentire {GB}), Chintz (NZ) (Savabeel), winner of the G2 Rich Hill Mile S., and the talented Not An Option (Not A Single Doubt).

Expanding the roster

The arrival of Moโ€™unga brings the Newhaven Park stallion roster to three. Moโ€™Unga is now the most expensive stallion at Newhaven Park, joining another Group 1-winning son of Savabeel, Cool Aza Beel (NZ). Cool Aza Beel, whose first yearlings were offered at sales this year, stands at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).

Also on the roster is the fellow Kiwi-bred Xtravagant (NZ), who stands at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST). An established sire with plenty of upside, Xtravagant has sired five stakes winners, including the Group 2 winner Lavish Girl and the G3 Adrian Knox S. winner Arts.

Darley expands with international superstars
Darley has expanded its Kelvinside, New South Wales roster to 10 stallions with the arrival of international superstars Native Trail (GB) and Triple Time (Ire).

Native Trail, a son of Oasis Dream (GB), is standing for a fee of $27,500 (inc GST). An exceptional racehorse, he was crowned the Champion 2-Year-Old Colt in Europe, winning the G1 Dewhurst S. at Newmarket and the G1 National S. at the Curragh.

As a 3-year-old, Native Trail continued his success by winning the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and placing in both the G1 2000 Guineas and the G1 Eclipse S. He is out of the unraced Observatory (USA) mare Needleleaf (GB), a full sister to the Champion 3-Year-Old Sprinter in France, African Rose (GB). His pedigree also includes Group 3 winners Fair Eva (GB) (Frankel {GB}), Helleborine (GB), and Calyx (GB), who won the G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot.

Triple Time, a son of the exceptional Frankel (GB), is making his Southern Hemisphere debut at $22,000 (inc GST). Triple Time memorably claimed the G1 Queen Anne S. (like his sire) at Royal Ascot.

Additionally, he won the G3 Superior Mile S. at Haydock and the Listed Ascendant S., earning the title of Joint Champion Older Male Miler in Europe in Great Britain. Beautifully bred, Triple Time is out of the Listed-placed Mark Of Esteem (Ire) mare Reem Three (GB), who is also the dam of Ajman Princess (Ire) (Teofilo {GB}), the Champion Older Female in France and winner of the G1 Prix Jean Romanet.

The family has seen recent success with Ajman Princess producing the sensational Inisherin (Ire) (Shamardal {USA}), who excelled in the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and the G2 Sandy Lane S. Another family member, Rosallion (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}), won the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas earlier this year and the G1 St Jamesโ€™ Palace S. last week.

Too Darn Hot’s fee increased after explosive start

The most significant fee change on the Darley Kelvinside roster is the increase for Too Darn Hot (GB) from $44,000 (inc GST) to $110,000 (inc GST). A son of the Champion Sire Dubawi (GB), Too Darn Hot has made a sensational start with his first runners in the Southern Hemisphere.

He is the sire of Godolphinโ€™s Broadsiding, who has won the G1 Champagne S., the G1 JJ Atkins S., the G2 Siresโ€™ Produce S., and the Listed Fernhill H. In total, he has sired 12 individual winners and six stakes performers, including the R. Listed Magic Millions National 2YO Classic and the R. Listed Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Arabian Summer, the G2 Reisling S.-placed Too Darn Lizzie, the Group 2-placed Superalloy and Silmarillion, and the Listed-placed Trembles.

Too Darn Hot is currently leading the Australian First-Season Sires table and is placed second on the Leading Australian 2-Year-Old Sires list, behind Written Tycoon.

Absentees

There haven’t been many relocations from the Hunter Valley this season. Coolmore has removed the Group 1-producing sire Adelaide (Ire) from its roster although he remains at the farm.

Another absentee from the Arrowfield roster is Showtime, a Group 2-winning son of Snitzel, who has sired the Listed winner Show Royale and the Group 3-placed Tacito and Bojangles.
